Sanremo’s Environmental Policy

Sanremo UK is a business that is committed to providing amazing coffee machines whilst addressing issues of environmental sustainability and impact. We know that whoever we are as businesses or individuals – we all have a moral responsibility to ensure we are doing all we can to protect the future of the planet on both an environmental and human level.

In recent years, aspects of consumer choice have changed and many now recognise how our lifestyle habits are affecting the world around us.

In updating our Environmental Policy, we wanted to explore the steps Sanremo UK could take to be a more environmentally responsible player. We set ourselves some ambitious goals to make improvements that will help us to reduce our environmental footprint wherever we can.

We are focusing on three main areas:

  • Energy Efficiency in our coffee machines, our buildings and our operations.
  • Waste Reduction in our packaging, product life-cycle and daily business activities.
  • Supporting Greener Business by giving staff, customers and suppliers the tools to conduct activities in a more environmentally responsible manner.

Here are the steps Sanremo UK is taking to put this into practice.

Increasing Energy Efficiency:

Sanremo UK has tested many of their range and other manufacturers machines to compare the energy consumption of newer models and more traditional coffee machines.

Preliminary results show that traditional machines can use up to 50% more energy than those machines with power saving features. While next-generation machines like Sanremo’s Opera II and Café Racer, include internal boiler insulation, energy management software and precision control technology to help café owners reduce energy consumption. Over the course of a year, a single cafe could reduce their energy output by as much as 50% by upgrading their machine.

Reducing Waste

Carefully packing machines and parts is essential to ensure products reach our customers in perfect condition. However, we are committed to choosing recycled paper over plastic, reducing excess packing and wrapping as well as re-using as much old packaging material as we can.

By offering an efficient technical support and repairs service we prevent the disposal of the entire machine.

We champion customers who upcycle their wooden machine crates by turning them into furniture or use old machine panels to create sculptures.

In our offices we are starting to separate out our waste into different bins, we use low energy light bulbs and automatic switches in our warehouse. We are re-using exhibition stands and promoting compostable and re-useable cups.

Our next steps include:

  • Further testing of machines so we can help customers to be more informed about the energy consumption of different machines and make environmentally friendly choices.
  • Eliminating the use of single-use plastic wrapping and packaging.
  • Recycling all our waste.
  • Consider environmental factors when making decisions, including procurement, exhibitions and operational activities.
  • Monitor, manage and minimise our use of water and energy.
  • Monitor and minimise the environmental impact of our travel and transport arrangements.

At Sanremo UK Ltd we believe that businesses are responsible for achieving good environmental practice and operating in a sustainable manner. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and continually improving our environmental performance as an integral and fundamental part of our business strategy and operating methods.
